"The White Sox scratched ace Chris Sale from his scheduled start Saturday and sent him home due to an undisclosed “clubhouse incident.”
A statement released by general manager Rick Hahn less than 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch said the incident was “non-physical in nature” and is currently being investigated by the club.
Hahn said the Sox will have no further comment until their investigation is complete.
Multiple reports indicated the incident had to do with the 1976 throwback uniforms the Sox were supposed to wear Saturday. Sale reportedly found the uniforms uncomfortable and cut them up during batting practice.
The Sox ended up coming out of the dugout in their 1983 throwbacks.
Sale was in the clubhouse before the game but was unavailable for interviews, and media were ushered out for a team meeting at 3 p.m. Reliever Matt Albers started in his place."
